Up to £20 per hour + Door-to-Door Travel + Excellent Overtime + Company Vehicle

TSM Technical are recruiting on behalf of a well-established specialist within the security and access control industry for an experienced Gate & Barrier Engineer to join their growing engineering team.

This is a varied field-based role covering North London, Essex and the surrounding areas, carrying out the installation, service, maintenance, repair and commissioning of automatic gates, barriers, blockers, turnstiles and associated access control systems.

The Role

As a Gate & Barrier Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Installation of automatic gates, barriers, blockers and turnstiles.
  • Planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
  • Reactive breakdowns, fault finding and repairs.
  • Commissioning of new installations.
  • Conducting site surveys and producing detailed reports.
  • Completing electronic service documentation.
  • Delivering excellent customer service on-site.
  • Participating in a 1-in-4 out-of-hours call-out rota.
  • Working safely in outdoor environments in all weather conditions.

About You

We're looking for someone with:

  • Previous experience servicing, maintaining or installing gate and barrier systems.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience commissioning equipment.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • 18th Edition Electrical Qualification.
  • Three-phase electrics and 24V AC/DC controls.
  • PLC controls.
  • Mechanical engineering.
  • Hydraulic or pneumatic systems.
  • Welding experience.
  • ECS, CSCS, CCNSG, SSSTS or SMSTS.
  • Access control systems.
  • Health & Safety qualifications.

Salary & Benefits

  • Up to £20 per hour
  • 40-hour working week
  • Paid door-to-door
  • Company vehicle and fuel card
  • Uncapped overtime
  • Overtime paid at time and one-third after 40 hours Monday-Friday and for the first four hours on Saturdays
  • Double time before 6am Monday-Saturday, after the first four hours on Saturdays, Sundays, Bank Holidays and scheduled night works (10pm-6am)
  • Standby allowance of £120 per week (1-in-4 rota)
  • Call-out payments:
    • £25 Monday-Thursday
    • £35 Friday-Sunday
    • £50 Bank Holidays
  • 22 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays
  • Additional 3 days annual leave after 2 years' service
  • NEST Pension Scheme (8% total contribution)
  • Uniform, PPE, mobile phone and tools provided

Working Hours

  • Predominantly Monday to Friday
  • Regular overtime available
  • Weekend and occasional night work required
  • Participation in a 1-in-4 call-out rota

Additional Information

  • Successful applicants must be able to obtain security clearance.
  • Occasional overnight stays may be required depending on workload.
  • Some overseas travel may be available but is entirely optional.
  • The role is predominantly field-based and outdoors.
