Gate & Barrier Engineer

South London, Kent & Surrey

£20.00 per hour + Door-to-Door Travel + Company Vehicle + Excellent Overtime

TSM Technical are recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist in automatic gates, barriers and access control systems for an experienced Gate & Barrier Engineer to join their growing engineering team.

Covering customer sites across South London, Kent, Surrey and the surrounding areas, you'll be responsible for the service, maintenance, fault finding, repair, installation and commissioning of automatic gates, barriers, bollards, turnstiles and associated access control systems.

The Role

As a Gate & Barrier Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Servicing, maintaining and repairing automatic gates, barriers, bollards and turnstiles.
  • Installing and commissioning new gate and barrier systems.
  • Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults.
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
  • Completing reactive breakdown repairs.
  • Working on associated access control equipment where required.
  • Conducting site surveys and identifying remedial works.
  • Completing electronic job sheets and service reports.
  • Providing a high level of customer service on client sites.
  • Participating in a 1-in-4 out-of-hours call-out rota.
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience servicing, maintaining or installing automatic gates and barriers.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience commissioning automatic gate and barrier systems.
  • The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
  • A full UK driving licence.

  • 18th Edition Electrical Qualification
  • 24V AC/DC and three-phase electrical systems
  • PLC fault finding
  • Hydraulic or pneumatic systems
  • Welding or fabrication experience
  • ECS, CSCS, CCNSG, SSSTS or SMSTS certification

Salary & Benefits

  • £20.00 per hour
  • 40-hour working week
  • Paid door-to-door
  • Company vehicle
  • Fuel card
  • Uncapped overtime
  • Overtime paid at time and one-third after 40 hours Monday to Friday and for the first four hours on Saturday
  • Double time before 6:00am Monday to Saturday, after the first four hours on Saturday, Sundays, Bank Holidays and scheduled night works (10:00pm-6:00am)
  • £120 standby payment per week when on call (1-in-4 rota)
  • Call-out payments:
    • £25 Monday-Thursday
    • £35 Friday-Sunday
    • £50 Bank Holidays
  • 22 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays
  • An additional 3 days annual leave after two years' service
  • NEST Pension Scheme (8% total contribution)
  • Uniform, PPE, mobile phone and specialist tools provided
  • Ongoing manufacturer training and career development

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday
  • Regular overtime available
  • Participation in a 1-in-4 call-out rota
  • Occasional evening and weekend working

Additional Information

  • Covering customer sites across South London, Kent, Surrey and the surrounding areas.
  • Successful applicants must be able to obtain security clearance.
  • Occasional overnight stays may be required depending on business needs.
  • Overseas travel opportunities may occasionally be available but are not essential.
  • This is predominantly a field-based role, working across commercial, industrial and high-security sites in all weather conditions.
